BG on brink of sealing deal to bring back Diogo

Diogo Luis Santo’s much-anticipated return to the Thai League has moved a step closer with BG Pathum United confirming that the Brazilian striker has agreed a deal to join them.

Diogo spent four successful seasons at Buriram United from 2015 to 2018 but has played for Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) for the past two years. Now, after months of speculation, it appears that a move back to Thailand is imminent

BG’s general manager Surachai Jaturapattarapong told Goal Thailand, “Right now, everything is done. We agreed on wages and other details in the contract. We’re just awaiting the contract signing to make it official.”

Signing a player of Diogo’s calibre is further evidence that BG intend to stay at the top of T1 for this season and beyond. The Rabbits have opened up a five-point lead following a string of impressive performances, particularly in defence.

It is felt that the missing ingredient in a very solid squad is a striker who can guarantee goals and in Diogo they would have that. But it may not end there.

BG have also made a bid for Thailand legend Teerasil Dangda and have agreed terms with his current club – Shimizu S-Pulse in Japan.

“It’s true that we have also sent an official offer to Teerasil,” Surachai added. “His club has agreed and it is not up to him to decide if he wants to join us.”

Capturing two of the league’s greatest ever strikers would be quite a coup and would certainly make Dusit Chalermsan’s team clear favourites for this year’s title.

Diogo and Teerasil may be 33 and 32 respectively, but they should still have the quality to add a stronger cutting edge to the BG frontline.

They would also add considerable AFC Champions League experience to the squad – a tournament that BG will qualify for if they can hold onto their lead for another seven matches.
